Hello Carpenter Family!
I am Carrie Leonard, St. Joseph's School Counselor. I studied at Indiana University Southeast for my Master's in school counseling and graduated in 2020. I have been happlied married for almost 16 years, to my husband Drew and we have a daughter name Emily. She is headed to 9th grade this fall. We live in Shepherdsville, KY and attend Little Flock Baptist Church.
Can you believe it? I am here 5 days a week now and I am over the moon with excitment to be here with your students every single day!
Our Youth Group has been working on building community and practicing grace. I hope that I can do the same for our SJCS classes as well. I want the students to understand that mistakes are proof that we are trying something new, different and sometimes hard.
Your students have been taught that I have an open door policy, if my door is open and there is not another student in the room they may walk right in to visit me. I will also be teaching this year the SEL (social emotional learning) class on Thursdays. Our youngers students, PK through 3rd, will be learning the most about emotional regulation and our upper grades will be working on restorative practices and community building.
I also want to set up a once a month meeting with the parents, so you may come and chat with me about what the students are learning this month, how I can support you at home and here at school, or for us to sit and catch up. I will send home more information about that in the coming weeks!
Please know that my open door pliciy applies to you as paretns as well. I am here to support your student and your families as well. If I don't know the answer, I will find it!
